ASIST — Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training

ASIST is a two-day, in-person, interactive workshop that equips participants with the skills and confidence to intervene and support someone having thoughts of suicide. Developed by LivingWorks, ASIST is recognised globally as a leading suicide intervention training programme.

The course is designed for anyone in a position to help — professionals, volunteers, and community members alike.

What Participants Learn

  • Recognise when someone may be thinking about suicide
  • Explore and understand those thoughts and feelings safely
  • Work with the Pathway to Assisting Life (PAL) model to guide an intervention
  • Build a collaborative plan that helps the person stay safe for now
  • Develop confidence in supporting others at risk
  • Reflect on how attitudes and beliefs about suicide can influence intervention

Workbook cost: £35 per participant — These are official LivingWorks training materials and must be purchased directly through registered ASIST trainers.

Venue Requirements

The hosting organisation is responsible for providing a suitable training space. Please review the requirements below carefully before confirming a booking.

For groups of 15 or more participants

  • • A breakout room large enough to accommodate half of the participants at once
  • • Access to tables for the afternoon of Day 1
  • • Trainers must have access to both rooms from 8:00am–5:30pm on both days for setup and close-down

For groups of fewer than 15 participants

  • • A single main training room is sufficient
  • • Tables are still required for the afternoon of Day 1

General requirements

  • • Adequate space for interactive activities and group discussions
  • • Refreshments (tea, coffee, water) should be available throughout
  • • Lunch is not provided — participants should make their own arrangements

Participant Information

Each participant must complete a booking form prior to attending the course. This form includes:

  • Contact details and role information
  • Questions relating to lived experience (to ensure appropriate support is available)
  • The name and contact details of a wellbeing contact, in case a participant becomes overwhelmed during the training
